This Sloppy Chicken Dumpling recipe is a comforting, hearty dish that combines tender shredded chicken with a rich, savory sauce and fluffy dumplings. A twist on classic chicken and dumplings, this version is slightly messy yet incredibly satisfying—perfect for cozy family dinners. With a balance of creamy texture and bold flavors, it’s a must-try for comfort food lovers!

Ingredients

For the Chicken Filling:

• 2 cups cooked, shredded chicken (rotisserie or boiled)

• 1 tablespoon butter

• 1 small onion, finely chopped

• 2 cloves garlic, minced

• 1 medium carrot, diced

• 1 celery stalk, diced

• 2 cups chicken broth

• 1 cup milk or heavy cream

• 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

• 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

• ½ teaspoon smoked paprika

• ½ teaspoon dried thyme

• Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Dumplings:

• 1 cup all-purpose flour

• 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder

• ½ teaspoon salt

• 1 tablespoon butter, melted

• ½ cup milk

• 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Chicken Filling:

1. In a large pot, melt butter over medium heat. Sauté onion, garlic, carrot, and celery for about 5 minutes, until softened.

2. Sprinkle in flour and stir for 1 minute to create a roux. Slowly whisk in chicken broth and milk, stirring constantly to prevent lumps.

3. Add Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, thyme, salt, and pepper. Let simmer for 5 minutes until slightly thickened.

4. Stir in shredded chicken and reduce heat to low while preparing the dumplings.

Make the Dumplings:

5. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

6. Stir in melted butter and milk until a soft dough forms. Add fresh parsley if using.

Cook the Dumplings:

7. Drop spoonfuls of the dumpling dough into the simmering chicken mixture. Cover and cook for 12–15 minutes without lifting the lid, allowing the dumplings to steam.

8. Check if dumplings are cooked through by inserting a toothpick—it should come out clean.

Serve:

9. Stir the mixture gently, then serve hot with extra parsley on top. Enjoy with crusty bread or a side salad!

Notes

• Use rotisserie chicken for a quicker version.

• Add peas or mushrooms for extra flavor and texture.

• If the sauce is too thick, add extra broth to reach desired consistency.

• Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheated over low heat.
