Ham Gravy Recipe

Ham Gravy Recipe

  • Author: Sophie
  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: about 2 cups

Description

This homemade ham gravy is a flavorful and simple way to use leftover ham drippings. It’s thick, smooth, and packed with savory goodness, making it the perfect addition to any holiday meal or comforting dinner. Serve it over biscuits, mashed potatoes, or even rice for a deliciously satisfying dish.

Ingredients

• ½ cup ham drippings (or butter if drippings are unavailable)

• ¼ cup all-purpose flour

• 2 cups milk (or broth for a richer flavor)

• ½ teaspoon black pepper

• ¼ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

• ¼ teaspoon onion powder (optional)

• Salt to taste

Instructions

1. In a medium skillet or saucepan, heat the ham drippings over medium heat. If using butter, melt it completely.

2. Gradually whisk in the flour to create a roux. Stir constantly for about 2 minutes until lightly golden and fragrant.

3. Slowly pour in the milk (or broth), whisking constantly to prevent lumps from forming.

4. Continue stirring and cook for about 5 minutes until the gravy thickens to your desired consistency.

5. Season with black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt to taste.

6. Remove from heat and serve warm over mashed potatoes, biscuits, or your favorite dish.

Notes

• If the gravy is too thick, add a little more milk or broth until it reaches the desired consistency.

• For extra flavor, mix in a dash of Worcestershire sauce or a splash of heavy cream.

• Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated over low heat.
