Description

This classic comfort food features creamy chipped beef gravy served over soft flour dumplings and tender potatoes. It’s a rich, filling dish perfect for a family dinner or a nostalgic meal.

Ingredients

For the Chipped Beef Gravy:

• 3 tablespoons butter

• 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour

• 2 cups milk

• 1 jar (2.5 oz) chipped beef, rinsed and chopped

• ¼ teaspoon black pepper

• ¼ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)

For the Flour Dumplings:

• 1 cup all-purpose flour

• 1 teaspoon baking powder

• ¼ teaspoon salt

• ½ cup milk

• 1 tablespoon butter, melted

For the Potatoes:

• 3 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed

• ½ teaspoon salt

• Water (for boiling)

Instructions

Prepare the Potatoes:

1. In a pot, cover the cubed potatoes with water, add salt, and bring to a boil. Cook until fork-tender, about 10-12 minutes. Drain and keep warm.

Make the Dumplings:

2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

3. Add milk and melted butter, stirring until a soft dough forms.

4. Bring a pot of salted water to a gentle boil. Drop teaspoon-sized pieces of dough into the water and cook for 5-7 minutes, until they float and are cooked through. Remove and set aside.

Cook the Chipped Beef Gravy:

5. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.

6. Slowly whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until thickened.

7. Add the chopped chipped beef, black pepper, and garlic powder. Simmer for 2-3 minutes until warmed through.

Assemble & Serve:

8. Plate the dumplings and boiled potatoes. Pour the chipped beef gravy over the top and serve warm.

Notes

For extra flavor, sauté the chipped beef in butter before adding it to the sauce.

• If the gravy is too thick, add a splash of milk to loosen it.

Serve with toast or biscuits for a heartier meal.
